Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?

Treatment by the Assure 210, based on Nd:YAG laser technology, is extremely safe.

Laser hair removal was introduced after more than 30 years of laser research and clinical trials by physicians at more than 10 laser U.S. and Canadian research centers. All treatments are provided by certified laser specialists.

How Laser Hair Removal Work?

Short laser pulse is absorbed by hair, converted into heat and thereby destroying the hair follicles. Laser Pulses are not long enough to damage the skin. The surrounding skin absorbs very little of the light energy and is not damaged by the laser.

What To Avoid before Laser Hair Removal?

  • Any trauma to the treated area.
  • Sun exposure for 2 weeks including tanning beds (sun block with SPF 30 should be used). Sunburn can increase chances of superficial blistering.
  • Waxing, tweezing, sugaring, electrolysis, threading, tanning spray, bleaching the treated area, as the skin and hair follicles must be calm.
  • Any medications which are known to cause photosensitivity. Decrease or eliminate high caffeine intake (coffee, Coke), spicy food, or excess beta-carotene ingestion (i.e. carrots, vitamin A supplements, squash).

What To Do before Laser Hair Removal?

  • Apply moisturizer daily.
  • Shave the treatment area 2 days before laser treatment.
  • For hair removal on the face, please remove all make-up prior to the treatment.
  • For sensitive patients, topical anaesthetic cream (EMLA), available in every pharmacy, can be applied to eliminate any unpleasant sensations. Follow the directions carefully.

What To Do After Laser Hair Removal?

  • Immediately following treatment, the area may show redness and some swelling. Apply Aloe Vera Gel, clear Vitamin E, sunburn products, or cool cloths as often as desired.
  • If swelling occurs, apply ice for 10 min. every 1-2 hours. Discomfort may be relieved by Tylenol.
  • Do not shave and avoid any irritation over the treated area if swelling, crusting, or scabbing are present.
  • Do not soak in a hot bath until skin has returned to normal. Be sure there is no AHA in the cleanser.
  • If you have any open areas (a blister or crusting) you should let us know and also keep protected with Polysporin, Bacitracin, Fucidin or Bactroban ointment until they heal (usually 7-10 days).
  • Pimples can sometimes occur in area where the hair is dense – use an antibacterial soap and mild acne products – they usually dry up quickly.
  • Avoid sun exposure to decrease irritation to the treated area for several days.
  • Avoid workouts where you will perspire; they will result in itchy, irritated skin.
  • To avoid hyperpigmentation it is vital to wear sunscreen in the treated area daily; use a minimum of SPF30 for 2-4 weeks.
  • Make-up may be applied the next day.

When Can I See Results from Laser Hair Removal?

Initially, it will look like hairs are still growing. In fact, as a normal reaction, the body is pushing dead hairs out. This will continue from 1 to 2 weeks. After 2 weeks most of the dead hairs in treated areas can be pulled out without pain and with light effort, or they will fall out themselves.
